Responsibilities
Midwest Center for Youth and Families is seeking a caring and compassionate Activities Specialist to join our team!
Available Hours:
Sunday - Thursday, 10:00am - 6:30pm (40 hrs./week) between our Valparaiso & Kouts, IN locations
Midwest Center for Youth and Families (a subsidiary of UHS) has been in operation since 1997, serving youth across the country that are in need of psychiatric treatment for variety of mental health issues. The Midwest Center is a respected healthcare provider, fully accredited, 74-bed private, residential treatment facility with locations in Valparaiso and Kouts, IN. We are dedicated to care of the hearts and minds of our patients with compassion and superior quality behavioral healthcare services through our full-immersion Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program for children and adolescents ages 10 - 18 who struggle with emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges. Position Summary:
The Acitivities Specialist provides and coordinates therapeuitc recreational programming managing cases in conjunction with the Leisure Ability Model and DBT Programming Model.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
• Provide recreational programming focused on DBT skills: mindfulness, coping skills, stress management techniques.
• Provide structure that affords patients positive alternatives to behavior through groups, play and structured individual time.
• Adjust activities based on group dynamics and gropu processing skills.
• Attend staffing or provide input regarding patient's progress.
• basic group facilitation

Qualifications
Activities Specialist Job Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy or Rehabilitation from an accredited college or university or ability to obtain bachelor's degree within two years of hire is required.
•1-2 years of experience working with children in an extracurricular activity is required.
•Must be 21 years old
